I have no idea as to the exact age , the info I found was this : designed in the 1920’s (John Kohler & Otto Liebich) to be used on dinner train cars…to announce meals. There’s a photo online of a porter holding this as well.

The original mallet is missing
There is a wooden (old) mallet on the side with twine attached
