Description
Although this deck switch device works exactly like the Flash Deck Switch the two devices are unique to one another. Credit must be given to Shim Lim however because elements of Flash Deck switch inspired changes to the original design. This device however is rugged and made with a 1.6 mm shell structure with reinforced seams. The spring mechanism although similar to Flash Deck Switch is also clearly unique when the two are compared.I begin working on this deck switching device in the mid-seventies and relented due to materials I had access to at the time. This prototype went through countless revisions over the last ten years. After seeing the spring mechanism on the Flash Deck Switch device it provided me with a solution to an enduring problem. So I owe Shim Lim credit for the inspiration, although I do not use the same method as he does (it is still too similar to ignore).
I make these by hand and only two of the working prototypes exist. One is at the Illusion Warehouse in Fort Worth, Texas and the other is listed here. Two early prototypes were gifted to my nephew. These take from 6 to 8 hours to make. So I don't really see myself making too many of these. However
If there is interest I will make more, and hopefully find a way to streamline the process.
It is important to note. A cold deck switch is not something a magician would call attention to as a trick. Although it could be used as shown in the demo video. Ideally it is to secretly swap decks. The device can be reloaded multiple times throughout a program to create the illusion that a magician is using the same deck the entire performance.
Under no conditions would I perform anything like the demo during a performance. Nor would I ever draw attention to the tuck case. Also I must apologize, I have a cracked thumb and I not performing at my best.
