Never actually used or hung.
There are blemishes in the ceramic glaze and some tiny chips and stains along the edges.
The Milwaukee Road's practice was to award an annual Safety Trophy to employees in the operating division with the best safety record.  The 1978 iteration was this 6"x6" ceramic trivet, awarded to Montana Division employees.  The obverse shows a congratulatory letter from the railroad's President, Worthington L. Smith.  The reverse has a thin layer of cork for insulation,  when the item is used as a trivet.  There is a tab, recessed into the cork backing, for the item to be used as a wall hanging.
